The Palm Honey Jam

Palm Honey are one of the few local bands that despite their successes have remained relatively strong members
in the RG community. With a collaborative jam session on the cards we were sure to be transcended into their
infinite void once more.

Upon arrival there were a lot more instruments set up than expected and with two drum kits and just the general nature of the goings on, there was bound to be some King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard vibes. But this was a primal version of King Gizz, calling out to the dutty Gods with an ego full of iowaska.
As expected it was all very casual and flowed seamlessly, but when Palm Honey's drummer Ayden took his slides off, we knew this meant business. Whilst the members of Palm Honey were present most of the time there were also up to 14 people making noise at any one moment. Other people that made quite a feature in the nights goings on were the members of Vinyl Staircase, another local band that were ready to get down and get loud. Loud was definitely the main theme for the evening and with the set lasting well over 3 hours, a good portion of that was spent with the front row holding their ears, myself included. Perhaps this was the only negative from the evening but also there was nothing stopping us all from taking a step back from the speakers that were only inches away from us, so we have no one to blame but ourselves, we were all just too drawn in to the siren calls.
Although the nods to King Gizzard remained subtle throughout the night, references to Fat White Family gradually increased and exploded into a very shouty rendition of Touch The Leather in the latter half of the session. So much went on in these few hours it seems redundant trying to explain every detail. But just know you had to be there in the space with everyone to feel the full effects of whatever drug was in the air, and we've just got to pray to The Devine that they do it all again.

If you want more Palm Honey, we've got it. Here's our interview we did with them just a few weeks back.
You can find their music here.
We also happened to interview Vinyl Staircase that week too, so if you want to know more about them click here.
Or listen to their Soundcloud here.
