There's always new content from smaller bands that need attention so here's the first in a new series of
BRAND NEW x2, where we'll be bringing you two new releases as they hit the internet. We're kicking it all off with Wax Colour and Two Penny Blue.
Wax Colour have been knocking about for a while now and it was just about time the boys from Essex graced us with another video. Runaway Baby is track 3 of 9 on their EP DIY. The video is fitting with the title of the EP, it's very DIY - so much so that it becomes a little endearing. Whether you've seen Wax Colour all over Twitter or not, the video makes them that next level of relatable that you feel like you've been running about with them since you were little. It gives you the reassurance of somewhere you've been before and has some little nods to previous videos and the infamous lucky cat. Overall, it's just quite lovely and although the thought of yellowy-brown drinks doesn't appeal to me, I'd happily crack open a cold one with these guys. Check out the video for yourself below:
Two Penny Blue are our new found loves from the folk rock side of indie and with an album looming we're sure you need to get to know them now. The video is stunning and a complete contrast to Wax Colour's. This is very well executed and it's nice to see how different styles of video really add to the general sense of the track. But apart from it being beautiful, the song is reminiscent of maybe only a few summers ago. It doesn't quite qualify for the nostalgia of the 60s but it's definitely bringing back some memories we didn't know were there. There is some pain and dismay in the lyrics and it's atmospheric enough to leave room for some minor mental corruption but overall it's got some pep to it (no existential crisis tonight). Watch the picturesque video down below:
“It’s the first release from our debut album ‘Let’s Say’, which is about the development from childhood, to a teenager, to the first steps into adulthood. This song comes into the middle of the album and hits right in that part of the crossover from childhood to adulthood” - Tommy Gathers.
And most importantly, you can stream, download or buy the EP here.
