Introducing Anoa, an indie-rock band from Leicester. If you haven't heard of them yet, you certainly will in the near future - having already supported Spring King and with more big support in the future, these boys are definitely ones to look out for. We had a quick chat with Mitch (bass and backing vocals) to discuss Benicassim, Simon Says and future goals:

Firstly, let's get to know you – introduce yourselves, who does what in the band?

Harris fronts the band, plays rhythm and does vocals of course! CJ plays lead guitar, I do bass and backing vocals, as well as pretty much having a stroke on stage, and Jared plays the drums.

How did you all meet and at what point did you decide to form Anoa?

Anoa used to be a three piece where just Harris and Jared were involved, Harris didn't even front it he were the bassist, then it all went tits up and me and CJ joined and it got moving from there, it was literally exactly this time last year haha

I can hear the Slaves vibes in your songs, are there any other artists you’d say have influenced your sound?

Yeah Slaves are a definite influence for us, Cabbage are our biggest inspiration and we also take influence from early Arctic Monkeys B-sides and demos.

What was it like supporting Spring King recently?

Spring King was nuts. We played to a packed out Cookie and then caught a flight to Magaluf the same night haha. Was the first time we supported what we would call a "big band." Was proper overwhelming like but we held our own

Festival of choice?

Festival of our choice is WITHOUT DOUBT Benicassim. Me and Harris went there this year and actually got Anoa tattooed on us haha. Saw artists that made us wanna be in a band in the first place, like Pete Doherty, Kasabian. The proper big names.

You played at Simon Says last month, how was that experience?

Simon Says were brilliant as well. We opened up the Marquee Stage and it's always a bit dodgy kicking off a stage ain't it, cause it can be a bit dead. But we got a proper decent crowd and played a good set inall. Was a bit surreal having people come up to us throughout the day saying how much they enjoyed us, we proper thrive off that shit.

Did you get a chance to see any other bands? Who should we keep an eye on?

Our favourite local band are Ash Mammal, who conveniently did play Simon Says haha. They're like Punk, Grunge and all sorts of freaky genres mashed together, mad stage presence too so they're our tip!

What’s been your favourite of your singles so far?

We reckon our single of the year is "I'm alive, are you?" We managed to capture everything about us on that track. Rough lyrics, a groovy breakdown and a fucking monster solo at the end haha. I think a lot of people see that as their favourite too

Have you got any plans for the future - is there a second EP/album in the works?

I mean it's hard cause we've got 4 tracks which adds up to your usual lengthed EP, but we don't wanna make an EP for the sake of it. We don't wanna be that band that's like oh yeah we've got an EP worth of new tunes so let's get one out. I reckon we're just gonna release singles here and there with a B-side now and then. An album's a couple years off too I reckon, our best stuff is still to come.

We've just gone under a massive booking agent in Leicester, so we're gonna be headlining The Cookie on December 2nd, and to promote that we're gonna be doing another BIG support in October! As for the future, we're just gonna ride it and see where we get, we proper wanna be working with This Feeling and fancy our chances at playing the Jack Rocks stages at like Y Not and Tramlines next year, fingers crossed eh!
