Meet The Seamonsters, the all-glitter, all-girl band from Sheffield. Having already played with the likes of The Rifles, TRASH and Bayonet, and with their beautiful combination of angelic vocals and catchy guitar riffs, it's not hard to see why their fan base just keeps growing. I had the pleasure of finding out a bit more about these talented ladies:

Firstly, please can you introduce yourselves - who does what in the band?
Of course! Naomi is the lead singer, Lauren plays bass and does backing vocals, Holly is lead guitar, Tassie is rhythm guitar, Ella plays the keyboards and Ciara plays drums.
How would you describe your sound to someone who’d never listened to you before?
Indie glitter!
Are there any musicians that have especially influenced you?
We're very inspired by The Wombats and Pulp, both bands who have a lot of keys in their songs. We also love Altered Images, Orange Juice, Declan McKenna, Black Honey and The Stone Roses.. The list is endless.
Where did the idea of starting a band come from? Did you all know eachother before?
Most of us have known each other since we were really young, we all played instruments and were already friends so it just seemed like a logical thing to do. Ella joined earlier this year when our old keyboardist left and has been a massive influence on the sound of our new songs!
How did you come up with the name The Seamonsters?
Most of us used to attend a drama group and we were given the part of seamonsters in one of the plays, the name was a joke at first but it stuck and we love it.
How do you find being a six-piece all-female band? Have you encountered any problems?
Obviously being a six-piece can have its issues when we're playing at smaller venues as it can be tricky to all fit on the stage but we work round it. Being and all-female band has both positives and negatives, it's honestly nice to know we're part of helping equality in the music industry but it's also amazing how differently we're treated at times and almost spoken to as if we don't know what we're doing with our own equipment!
What hobbies/interests do you all have outside of music?
We're really into art and photography, we make the music videos for our songs and do a lot of photography and artwork for the band ourselves, along with asking friends to help and sometimes posting out asking about photographers etc because it's often nice to give younger creatives with less experience chances to take photos of a band and they've been some of the best photoshoots we've had!
You’ve recently released a new single, Wonderland, do you feel your sound has changed from the band’s beginning?
It's weird because Wonderland is actually the first song we ever wrote as a band when we were 14 so even though we've just released it really it is the beginning. I'd say we've adapted the song to turn it into our sound now which has definitely developed in a positive way since the start!
I absolutely love all of your styles, do you take inspiration from anyone/anything in particular?
For style we take inspiration for all sorts, we love looking at fashion from different decades and putting a modern twist on it, fashion and our image as a band is very important to us. Naomi is very influenced by classic vintage style icons such as Audrey Hepburn and Bridgitte Bardot, combined with influences from female musicians such as Debbie Harry and Bjork who influence both her stage style and peformance. Our style is vital to the overall seamonster persona, which has developed recently into a colourful, glittery look. We've decided that the crazier our outfits are, the better - no jeans and t shirts are allowed.
Do you have anything exciting coming up?
We're supporting Anteros soon which will be great, they're one of our favourite bands at the moment so we can't wait! We've also got a few gigs planned in cities we've never played before so that'll be nice also a music video for Wonderland and a few more releases!
And finally, what’s been your favourite moment as part of The Seamonsters so far?
Playing our first gig in Nottingham was a highlight, the crowd was great! Releasing our first single and seeing such an amazing response was so nice and recording over the last week has been tiring but so much fun!
