2017 has been a huge year for Leeds quartet Marsicans. From being signed to LAB Records to being tweeted by Coldplay, things only seem to be getting better for these four boys. We were lucky enough to catch up with Rob (pictured) to discover more about this incredible band.

Firstly, please can you introduce yourself - who does what in the band?
Hello. My name is Rob and I play bass and keys. I also sing a bit when I'm allowed! James plays guitar and sings the most. Oli plays guitar and sings the high bits and Cale plays drums whilst singing the low bits.
How and why did you decide to form Marsicans?
The band formed in high school and was originally a way to stave off the boredom of being a teenager. We decided to try and make it our career about two and a half years ago when we finally realised we weren't good at anything else.
You’ve just released ‘Too Good’, could you explain how the song came together?
'Too Good' came about quite quickly compared to a lot of songs. We were experimenting with electronics and vocal samples when Oli came up with a cool riff. That became the chorus melody and we wrote the rest of the song around it. Lyrically 'Too Good' is about being so in love with someone that you feel like you're dreaming.
Is your songwriting process the same for every song you write?
Generally James or myself will sit down with an acoustic guitar or at the piano to pen the bones of a song. We then bring it into our rehearsal space where everybody works on embellishing the idea into a full band arrangement, taking influence from whatever we are listening to at the time.
Do you have a favourite song to perform live?
At the moment my favourite is 'Too Good'. When you have been waiting to release a song for a long time you sometimes get a bit of cabin fever. It's a great feeling when it's out in the world and you can see people connecting with it first hand.
2017 has been a huge year for you, with being signed to LAB Records back in February. What’s been your favourite part so far?
This year has been incredible so far! I think my highlight was when Coldplay decided to tweet us saying that they were digging 'Friends', a single we released in February. That kind of thing doesn't happen every day!
You’re touring with Clean Cut Kid in October, who would be your dream artist (dead or alive) to tour with?
Michael Jackson. Watching the Moon Walk from side of stage must have been pretty fucking cool.
What do you think is the best part about the Leeds music scene?
Its diversity. There are about 100 scenes in Leeds and they all seem to be thriving at the moment. If you're into house or hardcore there is something/somewhere for you.
Is there any festival/venue you haven't played yet that's on your to-do list?
I would love to play at Alexandra Palace. It's such a beautiful venue and has so much history. It'd be wicked to tick off the list.
And finally, what’s next for Marsicans?
Lots more touring, more new music and hopefully, more of the same momentum we have been enjoying this year so far! It's been the best year of our lives and if things carry on like this then we'll be happy forever.
