Introducing XOCKHA, a quartet from Isle of Wight that'll fill all of your dream pop and shoegaze needs. They've recently taken a break as a band but we thought we'd catch up with Benjamin to see what they've got in store for us in the future. Watch this space for their comeback.

Where did the name Xockha come from?
XOCKHA came from the song ‘Xhocka’ by Young Colossus. I decided to move the ‘h’ because I thought it looked easier on the eye and was easier to pronounce, but who knows…
Settle the struggle, how do you pronounce Xockha?
Ex-ock-a!
Why did you decide to take a break as a band?
A couple of the guys wanted to focus on some other stuff, so we just decided to chill it out, gather our thoughts, and get back to it soon with a fresh mindset.
Can we expect any exciting releases on your return?
We’ve got a few things recorded which are in the mixing stage. I don’t think we’ll be rushing them out, but we’re excited to share what we have and can’t wait to be back playing live!
Being from Isle of Wight, what was it like playing your home festivals?
It’s always been great playing shows @ the Isle of Wight Festival and Bestival (whilst it was down on the island), we’ve always had good support, so it’s something we really enjoy. Opening the Bestival Main Stage in 2016 was an amazing experience for us as well, so we've got great respect for both festivals and amazing memories too!
What's been your most exciting gig to date?
Opening for RAT BOY @ the Wedgewood Rooms has probably been our most exciting show so far. It was packed out and the crowd were so up for it despite only about 10 people knowing who we were! Notable mention for the stage invasion when we played with Beach Baby @ The Joiners too, had some technical difficulties in that one, but the crowd were sick.
Your music almost defines dream pop, what affect do you want your music to have on people?
I guess evoking some sort of emotion is good! If one of our songs can help someone through a difficult time that’s great too, but as long as people enjoy the tunes then we’re happy. I do think the releases are pretty dreamy, but @ our live shows they seem more energetic, so it’s a nice balance.
Which bands inspire your sound?
I wouldn’t say we’ve really based our sound on any other band, it’s not been something that’s ever been discussed, but a turning point for me was seeing The Strokes @ the Isle of Wight Festival in my teens. They’ve always been a huge influence and directed me to listen to more guitar bands.
What's your favourite song that you've released?
Usually it depends on my mood, so maybe Need It To Stay right now (I’m feeling pretty mellow - been listening to The Smiths a little too much). I do really like Slow // Fast and Asleep // Awake though, they're my fave three!
When should we expect your return as a band?
In a few months time I reckon, so keep an eye out on all our socials (all /XOCKHA @XOCKHA), and if you haven't then hit us up on Spotify / Apple Music!

Be sure to check out all XOCKHA's socials to be on top of their return:
