We caught up with Harry Roke from upcoming indie rock trio, YVES, ahead of their newest single release coming up this Friday. Consisting of Harry Roke, Mitchell Dodson and Finn Wilkinson, three names you'll soon hear much more of as they reach for stardom. Read on to find out more!

Firstly let's get some background info, how did you three meet?

- We’ve known each other since we were like 12! We used to play in two different bands in our hometown, and Finn would fill in for the drummer in mine and Mitch’s band when he couldn’t make it, and then we realised he was the best drummer on the planet, so we robbed him forever.

How did you come up with the name YVES?

- That’s a really boring story, I saw the word one day, and thought it looked really cool in capital letters, and that was it! I really wish this was more interesting..

For someone that hasn't heard your music, how would you describe your sound?

- Umm, it’s sort of grunge/indie, I think it feels old but new at the same time, like your favourite pair of jeans! It feels comfortable but yet there is something sort of new and interesting about it

You're releasing 'You Wanna Know' on friday, whats different about it compared to your past singles?

- I think it’s the biggest yet! it’s pretty relentless, it’s just big, we think it’ll definitely be one of those ones people sing back at you! That’s all we wanted

What's the writing process like behind a song such as 'You Wanna Know’?

- That one came about really really fast, like it took as long to write as it does to play it, it just sort of fell out of the sky! Sometimes that happens, and there usually my favourites, but usually I write like the skeleton song and then we all do our bit when we’re together and just play over and over. I think that’s what makes them great live, is the fact the we write them live sort of, just without an audience..

Out of all your songs you've released which is your favourite?

- Probably 'Only One’ which we released back in April, that was another one that just sort of came out in two seconds, but my favourite is actually one that hasn’t been released yet!

What shows have you got coming up that we should tell our readers about?

- We’ve just supported INHEAVEN for their Glastonbury warm-up show, which was a great show! We’re playing our first London headline show on July 6th at Sebright Arms, then we play our first Brighton headline on July 7th and then a hometown headline show on July 8th, which is the night of my 21st, so definitely going to be a fun one!

As festival season is in full swing, which are you most looking forward to?

- We’re not playing as many as we did last year! We’re doing a lot of writing/recording over the summer, which is a shame but its going to put us in great stead for the rest of 2017 and 2018! But I think Truck in Oxford will be fun!

You guys have already achieved so much over a short period of time, so where do you see yourselves in a year?

- I think we wanna have a very busy festival season next year, wanna do a couple of headline tours and just get out and play. We have the songs ready to release so it’s all systems go for hear on out really, we just love playing!
