Will Joseph Cook’s debut album Sweet Dreamer will get you ready for the summer months I’m sure. His recent singles have given us the dreamy indie pop we all love, and his album is just one step further. On first thought it doesn’t provide anything we haven’t seen before and bodes the question; what’s new? With just a few tracks in it was sure I was proved wrong.

The title track of the album is something we’re familiar with having been previously released and sets the tone of the late teen artist’s album. His signature vocals are the impelling characteristic of this track combined with riffs that are sure to stick with you for the rest of the day. This isn’t some technical masterpiece that has a deep meaning embedded, but that isn’t the point. It’s an easy listening; feel good album which I think is just perfect.
The biggest excitement for me here was Treat Me Like A Lover. It’s a different turn to the music he’s released in the past, and is reminiscent of something left in the 90s. It’s no lie that this is the first tune I turn to when I think of the album, and unexpectedly it makes me want to get up and dance with every drum beat. Another favourite, Plastic, is a new direction also. The vibe of steel drums creates it into somewhat a dance tune and amplifies the meaning of a summer album, making the perfect soundtrack to a beach setting.
Despite all the positivity, Light Of The Day has appeared as the disappointment for me. It never amplifies and I was left wanting something else. This doesn’t take away my love for other favourites Girls Like Me, Take Me Dancing and Beach (I Wanna Make You Mine).
Cook has found his niche in the music industry and this album works beautifully. Concise and fun. He knows what he wants to produce and it works wonders in this 13 track debut. With such a promising album Will Joseph Cook has masses of potential.
